1. narrowness, tightness — Used of narrow width, as of a road, and of clothes or shoes that are too tight.
- kiyimni tarlığı — the tightness of the garment
- könçekni tarlığı — the tightness of the trousers
- jol tarlıq etedi — the road is too narrow
- çuruğum tarlıq etedi — my boot pinches my foot
2. cramped space, lack of room
- otownu tarlığı — the cramped space of the room
- üynü tarlığı — the cramped space of the house

- tarlıqda jaşaybız — we live in cramped conditions
3. hardship, hard going, distress — Also used of want or shortage, as of grain or food.
- jaşawnu tarlığı — the hardship of life
