Numbers
Counting words — and how to stack them into any number you need.
The building blocks
- bir one
- eki two
- üç three
- tört four
- beş five
- altı six
- ceti seven
- segiz eight
- toğuz nine
- on ten
- cıyırma twenty
- otuz thirty
- kırk forty
- elli fifty
- altmış sixty
- cetmiş seventy
- seksen eighty
- toksan ninety
- cüz one hundred
- ming one thousand
Putting them together
- on bir 11 — ten (and) one
- cıyırma beş 25 — twenty (and) five
- toksan ceti 97 — ninety (and) seven
- eki cüz elli 250 — two hundred fifty
- beş cüz altmış tört 564 — five hundred sixty-four
- ming toğuz cüz toksan ceti 1997 — a thousand nine hundred ninety-seven
- eki ming cıyırma altı 2026 — two thousand twenty-six
Say the pieces biggest-first and they simply add up — there is no "and" anywhere. A noun after a number stays singular: beş adam — five people, never *beş adamla.
