1. the side of something, the part of it that lies in a given direction — A lexicalized third-person possessive of taba; it follows the noun it belongs to and takes case endings of its own.
- volganı ayaq tabası — the lower reaches of the Volga
- mangılay tabası tar — narrow across the brow
- köknü qıbıla tabası — the southern quarter of the sky
2. a person others take malicious pleasure in, one who is mocked and talked about — Occurs in the frame X-nı tabası bolurğa and describes someone others gloat over.
- ala tabası bolmayıq — let us not give them cause to gloat over us
- jaw tabası bolurğa — to become the enemy's laughing-stock
- süymegenleni tabası — the butt of those who wish us ill

There is no plural of this word. The ending would attach like any other — it is the word, not the grammar, that refuses: this is not something Karachay counts.
