awa
/awa/ · plural awala
shadow, shade — Tenishev and Suyunchev 1989 marks it Karachay. Their example describes someone so bashful that he is shy even of a person's shadow: awasından da uyaladı "he is shy even of his shadow".
- adamnı awası uzun edi — the person's shadow was long
- terekni awasında olturduq — we sat in the shade of the tree
- adamdan qoy, awasından da uyaladı — never mind the person, he is shy even of their shadow

The overlap in the last rows is real, not a mistake: awaları can mean "his / her shadows", "their shadow", or "their shadows" — context decides.
