a switch, a rod (a flexible twig that bends without breaking, e.g. of willow) — Usually found in the phrase sayrı çıbıq "switch, rod". Guzeev 1996–2005 marks it Karachay and defines it as a twig that bends well and does not break. Tenishev and Suyunchev 1989 quotes it from folklore: butlarıma sayrı çıbıqnı tartdırır "he will lash my legs with a switch".
