A period in which great misfortune and hardship befall someone.
- Qanamat, teren ahsınıb, başladı: – Bizge kelgendi qoŋur jıl. Endi bügeçe tutmaqlanı başlarına boş etmey, ızıma qaytıw qalmağandı.Kanamat began, sighing deeply: "The brown year has come upon us. Now, unless I set the prisoners free tonight, there is no way back for me."
- Aşıqma, ol saŋa talawul bolub turmaz. Saŋa da kelir qoŋur jıl.Do not be in a hurry; he will not go on plundering you. The brown year will come to you too.
