Literal translation

even if he lets you make a belly, he will not let you make fat

Said of a person who is miserly and begrudging, whose giving brings no benefit and who never lets anyone get ahead.

Ay, sen [Sapiyat] tersine aylanŋın, qarın etdirseŋ da, jaw saldırlıq tüyülse, – dep, Bazarbiy peçni başında tabada keçeden qalğan hıçinleni allına alıb, saw stakannı tamıçısın qoymay jutdu."Oh, you [Sapiyat] have turned contrary — even if you let a man fill his belly, you would never let him put on any fat," said Bazarbiy, and pulling over the pies left from the night before in the pan on top of the stove, he drank off a whole glass without leaving a drop.
