/køpmej qalɯrʁa/

Literal translation

to remain without swelling up

Intended meaning

To take a solemn oath on the Qur'an without the oath exposing the swearer as a liar.
  • Aldap, jalğan ant etgeni üçün, köberik bolur dep turub, Toğuzaqnı bir da köber japısı bolmay, efendini tuwrasına olturğanında, ellileni bir qawumu qayğılı bolub, qıçırıb tebiredile: «Quran bla ant etmegendi, kitap bla etgendi, ansı köpmey nek qalğandı? Efendi qurannı bersin!» – dep.Expecting that he would swell up for having deceived them and sworn a false oath, and seeing that Toghuzaq showed not the slightest sign of swelling as he sat down before the efendi, some of the villagers grew alarmed and began to shout: "He did not swear by the Qur'an, he swore by some other book — otherwise why has he not swollen up? Let the efendi hand him the Qur'an!"
