Literal translation
not to know whether one is in the sky or on the earth
Intended meaning
To be so anxious and grief-stricken that one loses track of one's own actions.
- Tınç, saw qaytdıŋ ese, Allahha şukur! Allah bla ant eteme, sen [Sarbiy] ketgenli, saŋa asırı qayğı etgenden, közübüzge juqu kirmey, kökde esek da, jerde esek da, bilmey turduq, – dedi Dobay."Thank God you came back safe and sound! I swear by God, ever since you [Sarbiy] left, we worried about you so much that no sleep came to our eyes, and we did not know whether we were in the sky or on the earth," said Dobay.
